Carlisle Fixture In Doubt

As Swansea City prepare for the top of the table match against Carlisle United on Saturday afternoon concerns over the playing surface at Brunton Park have be raised by the Cumbrian club.

Stadium manager Dave Mitchell and the ground staff led by Les Nichol and Norman Potts have made efforts to unfreeze the playing surface at Brunton Park.

As temperatures across the north west of England look set to plummet bellow -1C in the region on Friday evening; Swansea City face a 3rd postponement within two weeks after the fixture vs Bristol Rovers was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

Managing Director John Nixon is hopeful that the fixture will go ahead despite the climatic conditions.

He told spoke on Carlisle United's official site:

'It goes without saying that it is a massive game on Saturday and that everyone at the club will be doing everything they can to make sure that it goes ahead. The covers have been used all weekend, and we will continue to use them throughout the week, and we are also hoping that the overnight temperatures will rise a bit as the week progresses.'

Should the conditions improve Swansea City face a examination of their promotion credentials as 2nd place Carlisle United look to usurp Swansea of 1st place in the table.

With that thought in mind the Cumbrians Striker top goal scorer Joe Gardner believes that the club can upset the league leaders.

He spoke to The News and Star:

'"I`ve played them twice and haven`t managed to beat them.'

But this is a hard place to come, the lads are close and we work hard for each other. If we play anything like that we`ll have a great chance of getting a result.'

Swansea will travel to Newport on Wednesday to face Newport County in the Quarter finals of the FAW Premier cup.
