Tilson: Swansea Championship Bound

Swansea City have laid down the gauntlet to the league one chasing pack after another consummate performance against Southend.

Warren Feeney had put the Swans ahead on 18 minutes after a cross from Angel Rangel.

The game was overshadowed when the Swansea goalscorer picked up a serious injury to his ankle ligaments.

The Essex side were reduced to 10 men after Nicky Bailey was sent off after receiving his second booking within 2 minutes; and never really recovered from his loss.

Swansea turned on the style and made the man advantage count as goals from Angel Rangel and Thomas Butler wrapped up all three points and ensured Swansea stay top of the league one pile.

Shrimpers manager Steve Tilson who engineered Southend's promotion to the Championship two seasons earlier has tipped Swansea to secure promotion at the third time of asking.

The South Wales club have in the previous seasons have been pushing for league one success and the elusive promotion that still alludes the club.

Tilson has is tipping Swansea to break that duck and secure promotion to the Championship

He told the Western Mail:

"Swansea have all the components in place to get promoted, without a doubt," he said. "It`s a talented squad and there`s no reason why they won`t be up there at the end.'

They've got the money for one thing. That always helps and it`s allowed them to bring in really good players.'

They are technically very good, they have good movement and pace throughout the team. That`s why they are winning more games than anyone else.'

Obviously Roberto has done well so far. He was a decent player, I like him and he is doing a good job. He has had a great start to his managerial career. I`m sure he will be expecting to challenge for promotion at the end of the season."'

Roberto Martinez will take his Squad to face Newport County in the Quarter Finals of the FAW Premier cup on Wednesday.

I have to agree with him, allthough we have been there or there abouts the past 2 seasons this time we seem to have the framework in place to carry us forward, this has been lacking the last 2 times we have tried.
