Rovers Game Postponed

Swansea City's clash at the Memorial Stadium has become the second fixture casualty within a week for the Bristol side after their League One game vs Cheltenham was postponed on Wednesday.

A pitch inspection was carried out by officials at 12.45 pm but the pitch was deemed unplayable by Referee Uriah Rennie.

There had been frantic attempts by the Somerset club to make sure that the fixture would go ahead.

It was hoped that the covers brought in this week would help to avoid a postponement, but the consistent bad weather and today's forecast ruled out any chance of the game going ahead

That forecast proved correct and despite efforts by Rovers fans who answered a call from the Bristol club to help them with making sure that the pitch was playable.

Their efforts were all in vain as officials called the game off. Rovers manager Paul Trollop has heaped praise on the all the volunteers efforts.

He spoke on :
Bristol Rovers Official site

"They deserve a special mention, because they were fantastic today."

There must have been 20 or 30 people out there, all ages, some as young as six or seven, as well as some older ladies and gentlemen."

It's people like that who make the football club - they are the football club. Players, management and staff pass through, but some of those people will still be a part of the club in 20 or 30 years time, maybe even 60 or 70."

Their efforts have been superb, and we'd like to say a big thank you to all of them. It's shame for them that the game couldn't go ahead so as they could see have seen their magnificent efforts come to something."

The rearranged date is yet to be confirmed but it is likely the fixture will not be played until the new year.

Vital Swansea will post details of the rearranged date as soon as we have it.

Now at least our boys can have a bit of a rest before our frantic december really takes hold. Gutted the game couldn't go ahead and we couldn't have stayed top but maybe results will go our way and we will stay there.
