Roberto Martinez will be going into tonight's game against Northampton brimming with confidence as Swansea look to maintain top spot in league one.
The Spaniard has seen his side lose only one home league fixture in almost two months following the smash and grab defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town on the 16th November.
Stuart Gray's side have a poor away form only winning one game all season in the league so far this term.
The Cobblers last and only away win in the league came at the back end of October as they beat Oldham Athletic 1-0 at Boundary Park.
This poor run of away form could prove vital as the Liberty Stadium based outfit look to improve on their home form.
It is that poor form that has seen Martinez come under fire from some sections of the Liberty Stadium crowd for his player selection and tactical decision making.
The tactician is expected to stick with his 4-3-3 formation against the Cobblers this evening .
Martinez told :
The Evening Post
| "Confidence is vital, especially with the way we play.If you haven't got that edge which confidence brings, the passing and the tempo of your movement is completely different.' We changed the formation partly because of Hartlepool and partly because we were at home,' Martinez added. With two banks of four we were a bit predictable, and it was helping the opposition defend.' For the first 15 minutes against Hartlepool we were fantastic. It wasn't one up front and it wasn't as rigid as 4-3-3. The players reacted to where the ball was and the shape was completely different depending on whether we were attacking or defending. We caused them a lot of problems early on and that's something to build on tonight. It could be that we try the system again |
