Non League Horsham earned a dream 2nd round replay at The Liberty Stadium courtesy of a 84th minute penalty by Landscape gardener Lewis Taylor.
The Ryman's Premier Division outfit went behind in the first half when Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney unleashed a low cross into the danger area where Guillem Bauza squeezed his shot past Paul Seuke at close range.
The game was delayed up until 8.00pm after extra work had to be carried out on the Atspeed Stadium's pitch after torrential rain had threatened to scupper the chance of the game going ahead.
Hornets Club Secretary John Lines has spoken to Swansea Vital and has insisted that the replay does not phase the Sussex based side .
He also went on to say that the club are looking forward to the 3rd round draw for the first time in their history.
He Said:
| 'Yesterday was a day full of worry, anxiety, excitement and relief that the game went ahead at all considering the absolutely foul weather conditions we exprerienced leading up to and throughout the game.' I must firstly praise the the referee Mr Kevin Friend who had the strength of character to allow the game to go on and be completed.' The match itself was never going to be a great footballing contest, more a case of survival in the conditions but the difference in league status of 100 places was condensed to an even sided match where both sides deserve equal credit.' From a Horsham perspective, we have a team that does not wilt or die under pressure and to come back from a goal down when heads could have dropped was typical of the gutsy spirit we have here at the club.' The replay does not phase us in anyway and we relish visiting the superb Liberty Stadium where you can be sure we will give it our best shot and as I write this, we look forward to seeing whose name comes out of the hat for the third round draw.' |
