Youth Keeper To Start On Friday?

Swansea City may have to field a youth goalkeeper on Friday night in the FA Cup as Dorus De Vries and David Knight are both struggling with injuries.

Second-choice keeper David Knight is out for three weeks after damaging ankle ligaments and De Vries picked up a knee injury during Tuesday's 1-0 win at home to Hartlepool.

Roberto Martinez is optimistic however that De Vries will make it to start on Friday, he told the Evening Post:

'At the moment our two keepers are injured, but we are going to see how Dorus looks after training today,' said the Swansea boss.

'He was very sore yesterday and we can't be sure how he's going to react, but I'm optimistic he'll be ready for Horsham.

'We would be able to get an emergency loan even though the window is closed and I am keeping my options open.

'But at this stage I don't think we'll need to go into the loan market because I know how quickly Dorus recovers.'

With all the transfer windows closed until January, Swansea would have to seek special permission from the Football League to sign an emergency goalkeeper on loan.

Dorus De Vries would be a huge loss for us. The Dutchman has proved to be one of our most important signings this season, having made some superb saves this year to keep out what looked like certain goals from the opposition. He's made a last minute save in each of the last 2 wins to ensure we went home with all 3 points.

Martinez has other injury concerns following Tuesday's game as Ferrie Bodde and Paul Anderson also picked up injuries during that game.

it wouldn't be Hawthorne on the bench. David Cornell is ahead of him and is first choice for the youth.
