'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez Praises His Angel

Angel Rangel scored his first goal in British football last night as his 82nd minute strike sent Swansea City to the lofty summit on top of league one.

The Spaniard signed from Segunda B side Terrassa in the summer transfer window has become and instant fans favourite with his consistent performances.

The Defender in turn has defied the level of criticism following his signing.

His solid performances have made him one of the first names to go into Roberto Martinez's starting 11 as the defender has made the Right Back position his own.

The Tortosa born defender along with Guillem Bauza , Ferrie Bodde, Jason Scotland, Andrea Orlandi and Dorus De Vries has spurred on Roberto Martinez's foreign legion so far this term.

In some respects one could forgive the defender for feeling overawed by the relentless pace of the the football league.

However the Spaniard has taken it all in his stride and has adapted well to his new environment. Swansea's Spanish Manager Roberto Martinez has nothing but praise for Rangel.

Martinez spoke to
The Evening Post:

'In football you can always appreciate the performances of a player but sometimes it seems that until he scores a goal, he doesn't get the credit he deserves.'

That makes this very pleasing for Angel, who has worked hard every day since he arrived to settle in.'

It just shows you the nature of the player. He is very happy to do his duties at the back and takes the responsibility to defend one on one.'

He is solid, but his real strength is getting forward and he takes the opportunity whenever he can. A full-back getting forward like he does can be the difference when you are playing against well-organised teams, and that was the case here.'

Swansea City will now turn their attentions to the 2nd round of the FA Cup as they Travel to Essex to face Horsham FC.

Cheers mate. Good to get a win at home. It don't matter how the wins come as long as the come. Grinding out performances is the name of the game when we play at home. Now lets stay up top!
