Tate Hoping He Keeps His Place

Alan Tate says he hopes manager Roberto Martinez keeps playing him at centre back.

After returning from an injury that he sustained back in August, Tate started at centre back alongside Garry Monk for Saturday's FA Cup First Round tie away at Billericay.

Tate said he was pleased with his performance and hopes he stays in the first team for tomorrow's Johnstone's Paint Trophy game at home to Yeovil (7pm):

'We all know that we've got a good squad of first-team players now,'

'But I played against Billericay so I've got the shirt and hopefully it's mine now to give away.

'I don't pick the team - all I can do is try to play as well as I can - but I'm hoping I can stay in the side.

'And while I don't know what position I'm going to be playing most this season, I hope the gaffer carries on playing me at centre-half.'

'I felt I did well considering it was my first game back, and overall I felt the back-four did a pretty good job,'

Tate has so far found it difficult to get a run in the team because of injury plus the arrival of Angel Rangel, who has taken his regular right back place.

Dennis Lawrence has received a lot of criticism from the fans this season and Tate will be looking to compete with the Trinidad & Tobago player for a first team place.

Who should we be playing at centre back? Alan Tate or Dennis Lawrence?
