Roberto Martinez says his future firmly lies with Swansea City.
There has been speculation lately linking him with the vacant manager's job at his former club Wigan.
The Spaniard however says he'd only return to the club during his time with the Swans.
As we all expected, Martinez has been forever loyal here and never would he leave a job unfinished.
Since arriving as manager in February, Roberto has signed his own array of players, many from Europe and his native Spain. He has implemented his own style to the squad and is looking to gain promotion to the Championship this year.
He told the News of the World:
| 'You cannot stop speculation and that is all it is. 'I have a job to do at Swansea and this is where my future lies. I would love to go back to Wigan one day - but that will only be while I'm in charge of Swansea. We are building a side here who can stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Wigan and some other big sides in English football. 'I wouldn't want all that hard work to go to waste. When you are successful your name always seems to be linked to jobs. And while it's flattering I try not to take too much notice of such things. 'It just proves we are doing something right at Swansea and so hopefully it can continue. You can't let it distract you from what you need to do in the long term. 'I had six fantastic years at Wigan and Dave Whelan was the reason I came over from Spain at the time. I have great respect for him and what he has achieved in a short space of time. 'Wigan are a great example of what can be done and I hope we can join them in the Premier League before long. But I'm just at the start of a long journey at Swansea and I have no reason to want to be anywhere else.' |
