Martinez In Talks Over Tudur-Jones

Roberto Martinez is set to have talks with the FAW following Owain Tudur-Jones' call up to the Welsh Squad for their remaining European Championship qualification fixtures.

by sbrjack
"Need him to be fully fit for club before he can think of country."
The shock call up of the former Bangor City player has perplexed many as the midfielder has not played a competitive match in over a year. In the surprise move by John Toshack Jones could feature against The Republic Of Ireland and Germany.

Roberto Martinez has insisted that he is striving to protect the midfielder's interests and secure the best outcome for Tudur-Jones

The Spaniard has also has admitted that he could feature in Tuesday's Quarter Final match in the Johnston's Paint Trophy clash at home against Yeovil.

He told the Western Mail:

'I will have to speak to the FAW again and see where we are,'

'We need to make sure that between us we give the perfect situation for Owain.

'We have to sort out some commonsense and do what's best for the player.'

'Maybe he can come back to us and join Wales again,'

'The Johnston`s Paint tie is something that Owain could participate in and be the ideal moment for him to get back in an official game.

'He's been away such a long time he needs to play, but as a football club we can't stop him going to Wales unless he's injured - and that's not the case.

'As I say, it's important we find the happy medium and get the best for Owain in club football and also his international experience.

'I've spoken to John and I know how important he thinks Owain will be for the future of Welsh football.

'It's also a fantastic boost for Owain to join the full senior squad, whether John's thinking of playing him or just having him around that environment.

'But if Owain hasn't played an official game for us then I think he will be a bit away from what is needed in international football.'

Swansea City youngsters Joe Allen and Shaun McDonald have earned call ups to the Welsh U-21`s squad. Nigel Worthington has also called up in form striker Warren Feeney to the Northern Ireland Squad to face Denmark and Spain.

i dont see the point in him being recalled, he wont be able to do a good enough job for wales atm, he's better off coming back to us and being on the bench on tues.
