Martinez Wins Manager Award

Swansea City Manager Roberto Martinez has won the football league's October's manager of the month award. It is the first time the young manager has been nominated and won the award .

The announcement was made by former Brentford midfeilder Chris Kamara on Sky Sports News.

Martinez was nominated after guiding the club to 5 consecutive wins. The first came against Swindon Town on the 2nd October courtesy of a Warren Feeney winner. The good run of form continued with a comprehensive 5-0 win over then leauge leaders Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium.

Bournemouth were to be the next casualty of Swansea's winning streak with a 4-1 loss to the Swans at Dean Court. Swansea also broke their Huish Park duck with a 2-1 win over the glovers. Swansea rounded of a perfect October with a convincing win over leauge two side Wycombe Wanderers in the Johnston's Paint trophy.

Martinez beat off stiff competition from Leeds United manager Dennis Wise who had won the previous two manager of the month awards.

The Spanish tactician also pipped mangers John Ward of Carlisle United and Dean Wilkins of Brighton and Hove Albion to the award.

The Spaniard was interviewed Live on air by Sky Sports News.

He said

"It's a great honour.''

"But the award is not just nice for me, but for the players, staff and for the whole of Swansea City ."

If it had gone to any other manager then they would have had to have paid for it. He totally deserves it and good job he got it!
