Robinson Contract Talks On Hold
Swans midfielder Andy Robinson has signalled his intent to concentrate on Footballing matters instead of engaging in contract talks.
|"The board certainly should be looking into this as a priority."|
Contract talks with the midfielder have been problematic in recent seasons with protracted negotiations last year. Robinson and his agent Neil Sang came under very severe criticism over their conduct in negotiations in August 2006.
The former Tranmere man had laid down an ultimatum to the club to decrease the pay gap in the light of Championship interest from Cardiff City and Stoke.
Reports have suggested that a 1 year contract extension was in the pipe line in pre season but it never materialised.
Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins has offered his surprisingly calm comments to the local media.
Spoke to the Evening Post:
|'Andy doesn't want to think about sorting out his contract during the season because he feels that doing his last extension affected his game.'|
We have had held initial talks and Andy has made it clear that he is very happy to be part of the club.'
He has told us he has no intention or desire to leave but he does not want to go into any deep contract discussions at this stage of the season.'
We want to retain all our better players, but with Andy, just like every other player on our books, the decision has got to be mutual.'
We are not worried because we trust what Andy tells us. We just have to accept what he is saying and carry on.'
This latest development regarding Robinson will undoubtedly worry the clubs supporters. Should the contract fiasco over the summer be replicated departures from the Liberty Stadium could come thick and fast during the the summer.
