The highly rated youngster is seen as a long term target for Martinez as he continues to build his squad for the future.

Bakr has international experience for his country and has been in training and playing for Trinidad and Tobago Olympic team in their group phase qualifying games.

The Defender currently plays his football for Caledonia AIA who compete in the TT Pro League

Martinez
spoke on the Official Site:

'He is a hugely talented centre-half.'

He has that leadership characteristic that you don't find very often and we want him to have a look at the way we do things because we know he is going to have a huge future.

He can't get a work permit at the moment, but we think he will soon become available and he's a good one to keep an eye on.'

We are presenting ourselves to him and he will probably play in a couple of games behind closed door.'

His agent Mike Berry has expressed his delight that Swansea City have given his client a chance to prove his worth in Britain.

His agent, Mike Berry said Swansea City were eager to attract more Trinidad & Tobago Talent:

'He will be at the club for seven days which will give Swansea sufficient time to assess him. This is a great opportunity for a star of the future to sample life as a professional footballer in the UK at a very progressive club, who are determined to get back to the Premiership, and also to get some tips from established stars like Dennis Lawrence and Jason Scotland which will benefit him tremendously in his career development,'

'Although he is still a young man he has all the attributes both physically and mentally to succeed in the UK once he has established a place in the international set-up. This experience will help him to see at first hand a professional standard he has not experienced so far and will stand him in good stead for the future.

'Roberto Martinez and chief scout Kevin Reeves are very interested in the rapid success of Trinidad and Tobago football in recent years and want to develop an ongoing relationship which is great news for T&T,'

Martinez is certainly investing heavily in young talent .In recent years many Swansea City fans have earmarked the defense for the majority of criticism for poor results. Looking to secure links and first looks at untapped talent is a prime objective of Martinez and the club.

In the recent transfer windows the club's scouting network proved very fruitful bringing the likes of Dorus De Vries, Jason Scotland , Angel Rangel and Ferrie Bodde to the club. Investing time looking at players like Bakr should be a priority for the club. This encompassed with Roberto Martinez's views on the transfer market show a drastic shift in club policy.

Sounds like just what we need but how are we going to get around the work permit problem? Its the right idea though. We definately need to invest in younger players that will help bring the club foreward!
