Butler Pays Tribute To Maidens

Swansea City midfielder Thomas Butler has paid tribute to his former team mate Michael Maidens after his tragic death yesterday morning.

The 20 year old midfielder was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa traveling on the A174 in Yorkshire when the car hit a metal post causing fatal injuries to Maidens.

Floral tributes to the midfielder have been placed outside the club in memory.

Butler who is a former Hartlepool United player has spoken out at his own personal grief over the death of Michael Maidens.

Spoke to the Western Mail:

'I played with Michael and I am struggling to come to terms with the news.'

He trained with the first team every day and he had a very bright future ahead of him.'

I`ve spoken to some of the Hartlepool players and they are all very upset by what`s happened and when they were told of the accident a lot of them were in tears.'

It would have been inconceivable to have gone ahead with the game in the circumstances.'


Swansea City captain Garry Monk has also offered the condolences from all the Swansea City players to the family of Michael Maidens.

'On behalf of all the players our thoughts and prayers are with Michael`s family and friends at what must be a very difficult time.'


Club chaplain the Rev Kevin Johns and Roberto Martinez offered their support to representatives from Hartlepool United who were present at the Liberty Stadium in the wake of the news filtering through from North Yorkshire.

Martinez has expressed a desire for the fixture to be played as soon as Tuesday of next week.
