Swans Players Shine For Wales

Swansea City youngsters Joe Allen and Shaun McDonald turned out for Wales at the Racecourse in Wrexham last night in their European Championship Qualification campaign. Both Allen and McDonald were out to put themselves in the frame for key matches against France and Bosnia-Herzegovina next month.

Wales started the brighter and took the lead when Bristol Rovers defender Joe Jacobson played a cleared David Cotterill corner back into the danger area. The loose ball was picked up by Mike Williams who unleashed a volley into the Maltese goal.

Wales then made it 2-0 just before half time when a well weighted cross from Aaron Ramsey on the flank was met with a fine header from Simon Church.

Allen was very effective in the game with some fine cutting passes and his overall play was good.

Bournemouth striker Sam Vokes made it 3-0 after Shaun McDonald beat his defender to the byline and whipped in a cross which Vokes converted past a stranded Maltese goalkeeper Miguel Montfort from close range.

Malta clawed a goal back after Allen lost possession in the centre of midfield to Ian Zammit who unleashed a sensational 30 yard effort which flew past Fon Williams in the Welsh goal.

Final Score Wales U-21's 3 Malta U-21's 1
