Butler 'I Need To Be Playing'

Butler 'I Need To Be Playing'

One might be forgiven for forgetting Irish midfielder Thomas Butler was still at the club after so many new arrivals.

The acquisition of Paul Anderson and the rejuvenated Andy Robinson have pushed Butler further down the pecking order at the club.

So Much so Butler looked set to leave Swansea City for pastures new this summer; with a move to League Two side Barnet rumoured as his possible destination.

Butler has been told in recent weeks that he is very much part of Roberto Martinez's plans at the club.Martinez was also quick to praise his midfielders efforts in the Johnston's Paint Trophy 1st round at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night

Martinez
Told The South Wales Evening Post:

''We know he has got Premiership ability. All he needs to do now is make sure that he keeps fit and available, because when he is on top of his game he is one of those players who is exciting to watch.'

Butler could have seen his fortunes at the club turn after the consummate performance on the right side of midfield. This level of flexibility could prove vital for Butler as he looks to usurp Anderson , Robbinson and Britton from their respective positions.

The Former Sunderland midfielder has also spoken out about those transfer rumours that surfaced at the beginning of the summer.

Butler
Told The South Wales Evening Post:

''People talk, not the manager but maybe higher up the club, and there were rumours that I might be leaving.'

So I asked the manager. I said to him that if he didn't want me he should come and tell me, because I'm not the type of player to sit around when I'm not needed.

"I told him I wasn't complaining - Andy Robinson and Leon Britton have been fantastic over the last couple of years, and there are four or five wingers here now going for two places."

"But I'm in a difficult position. I'm 26, I need to be playing and I need to know how many games I could possibly play."

"I need you in the squad'. He said he believes in me and as a player all you want is that honesty.

Whilst no Swansea City fan can forget his heroics against Sheffield United in the FA cup last season opportunities for Butler this term have been few and far between.

With the arrival of Andrea Orlandi from Depotivo Alaves the Irishman's task to get more first team action has become even more difficult.

Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against him should he continue to perform as he did against Millwall he will surely be given more match time.

I think Butler is a good player and he has been unlucky at Swansea what with injuries and Britton and Robbos performances. If he continues performing well then he should be in with a shout on either flank.

Perhaps Bodde's suspension may allow him in to the team with Britton or Robbo moving in to the centre.

Britton started out as an attacking centre midfield player at West Ham anyway so we allready have a quality player to fill Boddes boots and it would give Butler a chance to prove himself. Could be interesting.

we'd be outmuscled if britton was to play in the centre, martinez said he had premiership class, hmm yeah right!
