Feeney Urged To Step Up To Challenge

Feeney Urged To Step Up To Challenge

Roberto Martinez has urged new loan signing Warren Feeney to step up to the new challenge he faces at Swansea City.

The striker arrived on deadline day on loan from bitter rivals Cardiff City to provide backup to our current strike force of Jason Scotland, Darryl Duffy and Guillem Bauza.

There was much speculation surrounding the transfer, with some rumours suggesting that a permanent move for Feeney had fallen through and that the Swans had to be content with taking him on loan.

The 4-month spell expires when the transfer window opens again in January, suggesting that the loan move may result in a permanant move if Martinez likes what he sees from the striker.

The Swans boss has urged him to step up to the new challenge he faces at the Liberty Stadium:

'It is a great opportunity for him, he is determined to make it work and I'm sure he is up for the challenge,'

'Our fans have always been fair and honest,'

'If he works hard and shows that to the supporters I'm sure they will treat him with warmth.

'I don't think where you come from is important if you are performing on the pitch.

'Warren is an international and he will give us the competition we need up front after losing Lee Trundle.'

That second comment regarding our fans though. Fair and honest? Yes of course some are but they are usually overshadowed by fickle fans who write off players and the team after poor performances.

I haven't seen many comments from Swans fans that they are encouraged by Feeney's arrival. Luton and Cardiff fans haven't been impressed with him when he's played for their respective clubs.

Again, a lot of fans aren't able to give new players a fair chance and judge them on stats rather than watching their performances.

We'll have to see Feeney play before judging him.

What are your views on Martinez's 3 signings on deadline day?

Don't think he'll get a good reception myself, when was the last time we had a player directly from Cardiff ?
