'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jenkins 'Striker Our Priority'

Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins has stated that the club are looking to secure the services of a striker before the transfer window closes on the 31st August.

Jenkins also hinted that other reinforcements could arrive at the Liberty Stadium before the deadline.

The Attacking line has been weakened by the departure of Lee Trundle to Bristol City for £1 million over the summer and has left only 3 experienced strikers at Martinez's disposal.

Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins
told the Evening Post:

'Roberto has made it clear he wants to strengthen the forward line and it's no secret that he's after a centre-half.'

But I think the fact that Garry Monk has come back and done well after injury has given him a bit of food for thought at the back so we'll have to see what happens there.

A striker is our priority at the moment, and over the next few days we will be making every effort to make sure we get one in.'.'

Martinez has looked to strengthen the CB position in recent days by trialling Spanish defender Josue Fernandez.

Jenkins was also wary of not paying inflated transfer fees in the UK market.

Huw Jenkins spoke to the Evening Post about tightening the purse strings:

''We've been caught out at this stage before and we're not going to make that mistake again.'

Obviously there are a lot of clubs looking for players and prices spiral as a result, so we'll just have to see what happens over the next week.'

Roberto is looking at home and abroad and I'm confident we'll see a striker coming in.'

The acquisition of a Striker , CB and GK are all fundamental requirements before the transfer window closes. Not strengthen in these areas would be a colossal oversight should injuries and suspensions kick in.

What is very positive is the direction of the board regarding the transfer dealings of previous seasons.

Those basic mistakes made in the past by paying over exuberant prices for players is the thing of the past.

Is Jenkins correct in identifying a striker as a priority?

I would say a striker is a priority but its 3rd on my list behind a GK and a CB.
barrydoom
yea we need a striker as we won't be as strong if scotland or duffy gets injured. GK is a priority and martinez may be happy with monk, lawrence, austin and tate.

i'd say gk is priority and then defender and striker are both needed.
