After massively impressing in both pre season and against Walsall in the Carling Cup Swansea City youngster Joe Allen has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The contract will keep Allen at the Liberty Stadium until 2010.
Allen's efforts had not gone unnoticed on the international stage. The Midfielder won his first International Call up to the Welsh U-21 side to face Sweden in Halmstad on the 21st August.
The diminutive midfielder has had a meteoric rise in the Swansea ranks since his début against Blackpool last season. Prior to his step up to the first team Allen was putting in some fine displays in the reserve side.
Roberto Martinez has been quick to praise Allen in his first full season as a senior player.

Spoke to the Evening Post :
| ''We're delighted to secure Joe for the next three years.' He is a very exciting player who has a fantastic international career ahead of him as well as a very exciting future with Swansea City. It gives us great pleasure to have a talented Welsh player like him in our squad.' Joe keeps surprising us, but maybe he shouldn't surprise us anymore. When he came on against Blackpool last season he showed what he can do and against Walsall he did the same again. There's a lot more to come from Joe and I consider him a first-team squad member now.' |
| "When I found out I was starting, well, it's hard to describe how I felt." "To get my first start in the first team for a club I joined when I was nine was a great feeling." Standing in the tunnel before the Walsall game, their players automatically started laughing and pointing at me, trying to put me off.' "To get man of the match was just unbelievable.I'm only 17, so I'll have to give the champagne away.' "I thought I heard it on the Tannoy, but I couldn't believe it was my name so I had to check with one of the boys when I came off." |
