More Injury Misery For Monk

Garry Monk will miss the start of the season after suffering an ankle injury during yesterday's defeat against Stormvogels Telstar.

The centre back will be out for a month which puts extra pressure on Martinez to add new recruits to his squad before August 11th.

The defence needed strengthening even before Monk's injury as we are severely lacking in quality and confidence at the back. Garry's injury leaves us with just three centre backs - Dennis Lawrence, Steve Watt and Kevin Austin.

Roberto Martinez told the Evening Post:

''Any injury is a negative, we don't want to lose anybody,''

''But it's especially disappointing for Garry because he has just come back from a long-term lay-off.

''He was looking strong and in fantastic shape, so this is a real setback for us.''

He isn;t our greatest defender but it is still a setback for us! We need another CB atleast. Hopefully before the start of the season!
