88% Say Defence Needs Strengthening

88% of our readers believe our squad needs strengthening in defence before the season starts in 16 days time.

In a recent poll, we asked you where in the squad we needed to strengthen the most, and this is how you voted:

Goalkeeper 7%
Defence 88%
Midfield 1%
Strikers 2%
Nowhere, we're fine! 2%

Only 2% think our squad is fine as it is while 7& think we need another goalkeeper.

It's hardly surprising though that so many think we need extra cover at the back.

At the moment we have Alan Tate, Kevin Amankwaah, Marcos Painter, Dennis Lawrence, Angel Rangel, Kevin Austin, Steven Watt and Garry Monk.

4 of those are full backs which leaves Watt, Lawrence, Monk and Austin. Personally I think Austin is only squad backup at best while Garry Monk is showing a lack of capability at this level.

Steven Watt could come into contention with Lawrence in the centre but we're lacking real quality there I think.

What are your views on our defence? Do we need a new centre back? Let us know in our forum here

Bristol City have apparently made a fifth bid for Lee Trundle which is close to our value of the player.

For the sake of a poll, we're asking you whether Swansea City should accept £1million for the 30 year-old.
