'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martinez In The Hot Seat

Peter Gibson from Svenska fans.com has kindly allowed us permission to publish this interview on Vital Swansea.

Peter was very lucky to get a quick word with the Swansea City Manager during his time in Sweden.

The Interview brings up Martinez's thoughts on Fans from other countries and the up and coming season.

Roberto, you have been in Sweden and Östersund for one week now, what do you have to say about it?

I`m very very impressed; I think the hospitality of the Swedish people has been fantastic. The reason we came here was to have a training camp and get together and to focus on our work. I don`t think you can get a better environment. You can really focus, there is no distractions, and it`s been fantastic from the first day to hopefully the last.

There are a few Swedish Swansea City fans here today did you know anything about us before today?

Yes, I heard there were some Swedish fans. Obviously we have following from Russia and the other following I was aware of and knew of was Sweden. It`s good to see you abound us in the team.'

Roberto was very much glad to hear that there were Swedish fans of the club at the game and wanted to know how many people were in the club. Peter told him that there were 15 members in total. For a fan club outside of the UK that`s pretty good going. Martinez was quick to offer a positive stance on the club even though the clubs numbers are quite small.

It`s better to have a good one but a small one!"

This was the first game of the season, how would you like to comment it?

That was the first eleven side exercise we had, and we achieved everything we wanted out there."

Jason Scotland was missing today, where is he?

He has got a tight calf, obviously Leon Britton, Alan Tate and Christian O`Leary are all in that category. You don`t want to take any risks, we got another four games over the next five days and we have to make sure that everyone will have enough games..'

Eight new players this season, do you have the time to play them together before the league starts?

'Yes, from every season you need to improve the squad and there were certain areas we had to do that. I think the quality as boys, as the persons, they are ideal to be a Swansea City player. The ability as you could see today is certain individuals that have been fitted in what we needed in our squad. So in that perspective I am really pleased, and I can´t wait to continue working..'

It looks like Swansea are going to have a really strong offensive the coming season, is it going to be hard to pick the team?

' Everything goes down to Swansea City`s idea. I think we are an attacking football club and our idea is to dominate games and control them and you need options to do that. '

Who is going to impress us this season?

I think everyone! I am looking for everyone to give there best and I think if we can do that and improve the standard every player a little bit I think you will be impressed with everyone. If we can do that we will be successful. If you are going to be impressed by only one player, I don´t think we will win many games. I am looking for a fantastic team attitude and a winning mentality, and hopefully we`ll get it..'

What`s your objective for the season?

'Winning every game! You know I am not going to hide from any speculations, we are going to be promoted and we are going to try our best in every single game. If we`ll manage to do that we`ll take Swansea City where it belongs. It is going to be very hard, the league is very competitive as you know, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Milwall, Luton, Southend. You got teams that I am sure they are all thinking they are getting promoted this season. Someone is going to be disappointed and we will give everything for Swansea to not be the one that is disappointed.. '

Recently you had links with Port Talbot and Liverpool, are you looking for any teams in Spain?

Yes. Well, you need to. In football, it is important to get experiences and get links with different clubs in different football leagues. At the moment we have the link with Östersund, Scott Evans and Kerry Morgan spent some time here. Obviously the link with Liverpool, we had Paul Anderson, it is a strong link. In Spain with Español where Bussy is coming from. We are trying to get the best experiences for the players development. '

Thank you Peter for the interview.
