Swansea Jet Off To Sweden

The Swans have flown out today for their pre season training camp in Östersunds in the Jämtland County.

Whilst there the Players will undergo high altitude training and compete in a pre season friendly with new link club Östersunds FK.

The Swans will have World class facilities at their disposal with the City hosting the Biathlon World Championship next year.

The Team will round off the week with two games vs Östersunds FK who play in the Division 1 Norra in Sweden.

The First game on the 14th July at 1.30 pm Swedish time will be Swansea City reserves Vs an Östersund's reserve team which could include Swansea City youngsters Kerry Morgan and Scott Evans.

Then at 3.30 pm Swedish Time the first teams will play each other. These games will be the first at Östersunds new 5000 seater Jämtkraft Arena.

In spite of this three player have not made the trip to Sweden. Dennis Lawrence, Darren Way and Owain Tudur Jones have not made the trip due to injury. Lawrence had torn a hamstring whilst training and Way and Jones are not expected to be fit till august.

Swansea City Manager Roberto Martinez has been keen to make sure that the team are in prime shape for the coming season and did put in place fines for those not sticking to their health/fitness plans.

Swansea City Manager Roberto Martinez told The South Wales Evening Post :

'Going to Sweden is the next step in our pre-season preparation,'

'The first is to take the next step in terms of pre-season conditioning, the second is team bonding and the third is personal planning.

'Some players may need to reduce a bit of fat percentage, others need to strengthen the lower body and others the upper body.

'Others need extra aerobic work and others just need to wait for the tactical work, which will start this week.

'Every player will do between two and four different sessions each day, which is something you can only do when you're away from your family and away from home.''

This training camp will work out the individual problems that the players have and will benefit them in the long run.

Roberto Martinez's methodical and sometimes obsessive approach to the fitness regime has been poles appart from previous managers. These modern practices have only come about in the past 10 years in football and Roberto is harnessing every facet to give us the edge on the pitch.

The Team will fly back in a weeks time and will have friendlies with Neath Athletic on the 18th July , Llanelli on the 19th July and Port Talbot on the 25th July.

They will then jet off for their pre season tour of Holland.

At least Roberto is making sure that the team is in good shape for the coming season! It would be good to have a full squad to pick from come 11th August!

I am looking forward to the new season with baited breath, hopefully we will come flying out of the traps and with all this extra fitness work, why not.

It might take a few games though for the team to gel, and for Martinez to pick his best side including tactics and formation. It looks difficult who to pick up front especially with Duffy signing as well.

Thats what pre-season friendlies are for though and i am looking forward to seeing who comes out of the tunnel at those games. Lets hope the boys all gel while they are out in Swededn and then we can look forward to August even more!
