42% Pleased To See Monk Stay

After a recent site poll, only 42% of our readers say they are pleased to see that captain Garry Monk has signed a new deal.

After missing most of last season because of a knee ligament injury, Monk is now fit and says he is raring to go for the new season.

Jackett named Monk as captain at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, but it seems as though fans are unsure whether or not he should continue that role this year.

42% votes 'Yes' that they were pleased he's still here, but 21% voted 'No' while 37% weren't bothered either way.

Personally, I think Monk played an important role at the back for us in his first season, when we won promotion to League One, but he seems to have struggled since then.

Hopefully however, he'll return in August and prove that he can play well at this level.

What are your views on Monk as captain? Should the armband be given to someone else? Let us know your views on our forum here

thats a low percentage. I've never been too impressed with Monk in League One, always thought his passing/distribution from the back was woeful and he just wasn't organised enough to be captain. I think we're better off giving the armband to someone else, Garry could cencentrate on set pieces better then.

I think its hard for the fans to decide about Monk as he has missed an entire season while the fans were only really exposed to the first team regulars. I'd give him a little while before i make my mind up on him this season. Maybe the injury has given him time to consider things and made him aware that his position is under threat just like anybodyelse!

i wouldnt say i am pleased at all. i doubt he'll play well after a long injury and he's no good as captain. i dont think he deserves that or a regular first team place.
