Duffy Move In Doubt

Duffy Move In Doubt

Swansea City are no closer in capturing Hull City Striker Darryl Duffy according to Hull Sport.co.uk

The club were given a boost when the new Tigers Chairman Paul Duffen announced this week that a deal could be secured over the former Scottish U-21 international.

In spite of this, fresh doubt has been cast over securing Duffy.

Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post:

'I would think Paul Duffen is trying to use the media to try to resurrect a deal.

If he is going to ring me in the next couple of days to say he has agreed to what we think is a fair valuation of Darryl Duffy then we will be close to concluding a deal...we are still quite a way apart as far as how much we feel Darryl is worth.'

Reports from the Daily Record's Soccer Shorts section indicates Swansea will sign Duffy for £200,000.

Whilst reports are conflicting its hard to ascertain where Duffy will play his football next season.

This whole scenario offers up some important debates over how clubs deal with players. Hull naturally want to get the most money for their player, in this instance they are playing a game of risk with the striker.

At Swansea, Duffy would get a lot of first team action which would not be likely at the KC Stadium. In effect Hull City have stopped Duffy from playing his trade and progressing with his career.

These issues cannot be ignored. Encompassed with the previous board under Adam Pearson putting a £500,000 price on Duffy was a big over estimation of a player's value.

It will be very interesting to see in the next week if Duffy will sign for us, one thing on our side is Hull are looking to sign new strikers. Figures crossed that an agreement can be made in the next week or so.

I can still see this deal coming off as Hull will realise there's no need to keep a striker on their books when they know he ain't gonna be exposed to first team football. I'd say the deal will probably go ahead in the next few weeks.
