'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Akinfenwa and Iriekpen Reaction

Bayo Akinfenwa and Izzy Iriekpen have issued scathing attacks on the club over the contract extension negotiations.

Iriekpen has been very critical over the way these contracts were dealt with and branded the offers an 'insult'.

Iriekpen spoke to the Evening Post on leaving the club:

''People are quick to jump on a player's back at a time like this and say he hasn't got any loyalty. But what about the service players give to clubs? Look at Bayo Akinfenwa. He broke his leg playing for Swansea.

'I think it's sad that the club put the kind of offers in front of us they did after what we gave them. Unfortunately they didn't offer me what I wanted and now I have to move on.

We never really came close to agreeing, and to be honest I don't think the club really wanted to.''

Akifenwa also has been critical of the clubs approach to the negotiations

He said:

"There was no negotiating,'

It was a case of one offer and that was it, and I felt my offer was a bit of a slap in the face. I didn't feel appreciated...but it seems Swansea felt I was dispensable and, having spoken to the other five lads who were out of contract, I think they all felt the same.'

Now that these players have left the club Roberto now can build the Squad for next season.

They think they're better than they are. The deals were probably fair, Izzy has had a poor season I think while Bayo will be low down on the pecking order if he did stay so they did get offered deals accordingly.

The deals offered were based on their season's performance - neither impressed when they played. We took a chance on Bayo seeing he has not had a chance to prove his fitness. Izzy wanted to leave last January, so has used the new contract as to his reason for leaving.

Good luck to both of them, now its time to make some quality signings, time for some RM magic!
