Monk Signs New Deal

Garry Monk has signed a new contract extension with club according to the Evening Post.

The central defender has not played for the first-team since his leg injury vs Scunthorpe United on the 8th August 2006.

From the Official Club statement on the Official Swansea City site:

"Garry Monk has always indicated his desire to stay with Swansea City. As club captain, Garry's commitment has never been in question and Manager Roberto Martinez feels he has a major role to play in the planned future success of the club.

Garry and the club fully expect to conclude these negotiations with some good news within the next 48 hours."

Monk was always the most likely player to sign a contract extension with the club.

Kristian O Leary's future will be decided within the next few days as he is out of the country.

With him being the club captain and also the fact that the contract hasn't changed since day one what has taken gary so long to sign? Lets see how well he gets on next season!

What took him so long? How much longer would we have waited if Martinez didn't make today the deadline? I hope he's not club captain next season. Hasn't exactly much desire of being the CLUB captain for the new campaign.

I think its time for us to have a new captain next season, one who leads by example!!!

Need someone with his experience. But I don't see him as automatic choice, but as a squad player.
