Akinfenwa and Iriekpen Leave Swansea

Adebayo Akinfenwa and Izzy Iriekpen have both brought their Swansea City careers to a close today.

The South Wales Evening Post has reported that Akinfenwa and Iriekpen have both rejected contract extensions.

Akinfenwa will leave the club with immediate effect.

Akinfenwa told the Evening Post:

'I thought the offer was a bit of a slap in the face and sadly it looks as though that's it for me and Swansea.'

Iriekpen has spoken out about the status of contract talks with the club openly, stating that the terms were an "insult."

He said:

"We never really got close to agreeing and I don't think the club really wanted to agree.'' '

Akinfenwa signed for Swansea city for an initial fee of £75,000 rising to £110,000 on appearances.

'Bayo' made 59 appearances for the club netting 14 goals.

Last season saw Bayo sidelined after he broke his leg against Oldham Athletic at the Liberty Stadium.

Izzy Iriekpen signed from West Ham United in 2003 and has made over 100 apperances for the club, scoring 8 goals.

Good Luck Bayo and Izzy and thank you for your service to the club over the last few seasons.

glad to see the back of these two big time charlies. Izzy has become more trouble than he is worth and bayo is more a figure of fun than a cult hero as he has never been good enough.

Didn't expect either to re-sign. Time for a change and to move on. Izzy - thanks for promotion to League 1. Bayo - I still think of the penalty miss in the olay-off against Barnsley.
