Akinfenwa Close to Leaving Swansea

Adebayo Akinfenwa has issued his most strongest hint yet that he will leave the club this week.

Bayo has been one of 4 players who have not signed contract extensions at the club. The powerful striker has been frustrated over the talks and has hinted for the past week that he may leave.

Swansea City Striker Bayo Akinfenwa talked to the Evening Post on the status of negotiations:

'At the moment I would say it is unlikely I'm staying, there has been no room for negotiation and that is something I'm not happy about.

But it is not Tuesday yet and things may change, they haven't even tried to meet me halfway,'

'I have asked them to match the offers I have had. I'm disappointed that we haven't been able to work things out.

I wanted to stay and if we could have agreed a deal, it would have only kicked in when I was fully fit.

The out of contract players have until tomorrow to decide their futures as the deals offered will be revoked.

It seems likley that all 4 players will leave the club with Iriekpen in talks with Scunthorpe United and Leeds. Kristian O Leary has been offered a 3 year deal with Cheltenham Town while the destination of Garry Monk is uncertain.

It's fair to say that it looks like all 4 players will leave, their departures will leave gaps in key positions like central defence and up front.

Martinez will have to strengthen those positions within the next 10 days and integrate them in pre-season.

I think it'll be a shame to see him but if he's been offered better terms elsewhere then he's sure to go. He could still do a job for us as a targetman but maybe with Roberto's style of play he doesn't want/need them. If he can't finish from 8-10 yards from goal he doesn't much use here though. I think its time for him to move on now, but thanks for the memories!!!

it is a shame but he has not been effective enough and his finishing has been poor.

'they haven't even tried to meet me halfway' says a story about the club! This is a two-way street and the club blame the players for rejecting! Disgrace by the board if you ask me!
