Iriekpen Blasts Club over Contracts

Izzy Iriekpen has sensationally hit out over the new deals offered at the club to the out of contract players. Iriekpen has sighted the contract length not the basic wage as a stumbling block.

Izzy has been outspoken at the club this year after demanding a transfer request and also his off the pitch problems have led to him being left out of the squad.

Swans Defender Iriekpen was interviewed by the south wales evening post on the Lack of negotiations at the club:

'' 'It is not about the money..It is the length of contract and the fact there has been no negotiation...To say we should just sign what is put in front of us is an insult...I feel I have to say something because of what is coming out of the club..With the way it is at the moment it doesn't look good for me staying.'

Iriekpen in recent months has been linked to Leeds United and he has confirmed that his agent had been in touch with the club.

It therefore seems that Iriekpen's time at the club has come to an end.

I must agree with the club over their stance with these players; they have had problems this season with either disciplinary problems, injury's and also under-achieving on the field of play.

Giving them a long term deal when there are concerns over them could send out the wrong signals.

I have to agree with the stance that the club are taking. The players in question haven't impressed too much this season and all Martinez is doing is giving them another chance as he was only brought in at the end of the season and hasn't had too much of a chance to work with the players!

I am not surprised with this outburst from someone who wanted to leave last January. He should have stuck to his guns and walked away in May. I still hope he finds somewhere else.

I agree with Izzy! Contract negotiations are a two-way street and it is arrogant and stubborn of the club to ignore Izzy over the circumstances! He has admittedly said that it is not about the money...simply the length of the contract. This shows that Izzy is not being greedy and simply wants a compromise from the club to show faith in him! I think the club should be standing firm over negotiations...but they should not be ignoring the players who they want to stay at the club! Would be a big loss if we lost him on a free.

i fully agree with Jackman2006. First of all i think Izzy would be good enough to play in the Championship, I rate him above Colchesters centre halves and they had a fine season. It's unfair to offer just 1 year. he deserves a little more respect, how many of you out there, in whatever job you do accept a 1 year contract, you have to think of your family, mortgage etc.

Apparently the contract on offer is 1year, with another year depending on appeareances, much like Austin's previous deal with the club. adding to my previous comment i would like to say that i now think, unless Izzy has a genuine chance to play at a higher level, he should sign, put this mess behind him and prove his worth, get the appereances under his belt and get another year if he wants it. if not then he goes, the club move one and ensure this does not happen in the future in respect of contract negotiations being left so late!
