Dennis Quits the International Game

Swansea City Defender Dennis Lawrence has announced via the club's official website his retirement from the Trinidad and Tobagan national team.


The T&T national team have in recent months has been beset with financial problems that has threatened to call into question the National's teams place in the 2007 CONCAF Gold cup.

Swansea City Defender Dennis Lawrence Announced the Decision on the official site:

'I still have a lot to offer, but under the current circumstances it's not possible...I've always been a team player, but at this moment I think I have to look after my needs and that of my family, which is trying to get the best out of myself for my club...I have had a lot of time to think and discuss with my family, friends and agent about my position on the matter at hand. For the record, I will like to say that I fully support my teammates in their stand for what we belive is right."


Lawrence scored the vital goal against Bahrain that catapulted Trinidad and Tobago into the world cup finals last year.

Lawrence has made 66 apperances for the socawarriors netting 6 goals.

I think its a shame that Dennis has given up his international career but its also good for us as he now only has to concentrate on playing club football. Hes got the experience and now all he has to worry about is the league rather than internationals aswell.

Yes there are certainly pros and cons but thesedays they sometime come out of international retirement so it may not be final.

Sorry to hear about the national side's problems. Hopefully they can be sorted and Dennis can add to his excellent haul of caps.
