Austin Close to Penning New Contract

Kevin Austin is set to become the first out of contract player to sign a contract extension with the club.

Swansea city have currently have 6 out of contract players who they are negotiating with they include Bayo Akifenwa,Steven Watt and Kristian O Leary.

, Kevin Austin said on the negotiations to the south wales evening post:

' 'There are couple of last-minute things to sort out and hopefully I will be meeting with the gaffer later this week.'.

''Things are still ongoing at the moment but it is looking good,''


Kevin has overcome a heart scare last season and has looked to reaffirm his place in the starting 11. He has improved this season but there are concerns of his condition to withstand the rigors of League football.

Austin will face competion for his place from Iriekpen,Lawrence and Monk. I was surprised that Austin was on the retained list after the departure of Tommy Williams and Andy Oakes earlier on in the month.

We don't want to leave ourselves short in certain positions for next season. When Roberto Martinez has got the players he wants for August, then any surplus to requirements can go out on loan, which will ease the burden on the wage bill.

we'll have to score a bucketload of goals next season with defenders like monk and austin still at the club. oh and izzy but hopefully he'll go.

He has been a good solid defender in the past but I think we really could do with some fresh blood at the back, shouldn't be a starter anymore.
