Swansea Offer Contracts To 6 Players

Swansea Offer Contracts To 6 Players

After releasing Tom Williams and Andy Oakes this week, Swansea City will offer new deals to the 6 remaining out of contract players at the club.

Garry Monk, Izzy Iriekpen, Kris O'Leary, Steve Watt, Bayo Akinfenwa and Kevin Austin have been offered new terms, confirmed chairman Huw Jenkins.

He said: 'Roberto has made his thoughts clear to the players and it now comes down to whether we can agree financial terms,'

'He has a budget to work to, and you have to bear in mind that Roberto wants to bring a few new faces in this summer.

'There's only so much money to go round, but our aim is to give everyone a fair offer.

'We will try to do as much as we can this week. It's only fair that we talk to agents as quickly as we can to make sure everybody knows where we are.

'After that it comes down to the players.

'They have to look after their interests, we have to look after ours and we have to see if there's any common ground.'

i'm also surprised watt is offered a new deal, and austin. iriekpen has really gone downhill lately but hopefully he'll regain his form he has shown in previous seasons when he's done well.

i think its a good move for us and watt. he is young and a very good defender. he came from chelsea and he even played a few games for them, even came on against barca. if he is good enoughfor them he is is good for us. he hasent been given a chance when kj was here, now this is his chance and belive me he will take one for the future

I would have got rid of more than the two already that have left. I would also put other players under contract on the transfer list. It is wise at present to hold fire on releasing anyone until we take stock of those that we are able to get in. There is still plenty of time to review the situation before the season starts.

they can all go if they want, no real outstanding quality there anyway, just means we'll need to sign quite a lot of players in the summer which we simply cannot do. maybe keep watt, bayo, o'leary. austin-getting on a bit, monk+iriekpen, they just can't defend at this level.
