'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Oakes & Williams Released

Roberto Martinez has told both Tommy Williams and Andy Oakes that they will not be offered new contracts by Swansea City Football Club.

Negotiations regarding the other 6 out of contract players - Kevin Austin, Kristian O'Leary, Izzy Iriekpen, Adebayo Akinfenwa, Steve Watt and Garry Monk, are still ongoing.

Martinez said: 'I'd like to thank both players for their efforts,''

'I know Tom already has other options, while the timing of my appointment was not ideal from Andy's point of view.

'While I've only seen him in one League game, I know he's more than a capable goalkeeper, but it's an area we need to freshen up.''

The Swans have also offered professional contracts to youngsters Kyle Graves and Kerry Morgan.

I had a feeling Andy Oakes may go. I also doubted that he'd sign a new contract if he was offered one. He isn't playing regular first team football which I think is capable of doing in League One.

Tom Williams on the other hand, he has the ability but I always felt he had the wrong attitude. He was never a regular in the team under both Jackett or Martinez. He started the season off badly at left back but improved later on as he moved into midfield.

Crazy to let Williams go, looks like his Hernia Op really cost him.

maybe martinez has got someone lined up to replace williams
hefyn11
we hope so hefyn. surprised to see tommy go, wonder if anyone else is going out the exit door.
GThomas
Tom Williams was third choice behind Tom Butler and Andy Robinson. Perhaps we can replace him with someone who is more accurate with centres into the penalty area.

yeah.. i heard we might be signing a youngster from man united? anyone else heard?
hefyn11
yes jamie mullan maybe, i've posted up articles about it recently.
KevinE
he's also been on trial with leeds recently as well so we face competition if we want him.
KevinE
shock so far as williams is concerned but this Mullan sounds quality

Tom Williams has been used on the left of midfield as Marcos Painter and Kevin Austin have been the choice at left back. A fit Tom Butler and Andy Robinson are ahead of him in midfield. We knew that Andy Oakes would be leaving.
