Martinez To Issue Retained List

Martinez To Issue Retained List

Roberto Martinez will today issue his retained list, but says he is annoyed with the contract situation at the club.

8 players are out of contract in June and they are: Garry Monk, Kevin Austin, Kris O'Leary, Izzy Iriekpen, Bayo Akinfenwa, Steve Watt, Tommy Williams, and Andy Oakes.

Martinez was annoyed to see so many players' deals expiring this summer and he said: ''A football club of our size should never be in a situation where we have got eight players out of contract and two loan players on top of that,''

''We are the Chelsea or Manchester United of League One and we cannot be in this situation. Those clubs are never in this position and that's something we should not let happen, but that's what we inherited.

''We shouldn't be this exposed when we are playing such massive games as Blackpool. We had out-of-contract players on the pitch and I don't agree with that.''

Iriekpen and Williams may be tempted to leave as both players have revealed that other clubs have shown an interest.

As a result of not renewing their contracts earlier, the club may be punished for leaving it too late.

Martinez added: ''It's possible that players we want to keep may go elsewhere,'' he added. ''When you have that uncertainty, the player can make the decision rather than the club.

''I have to see what each player thinks and there could be some who don't want to stay. That's what happens when it's left like this, and it's not something I'm going to allow to happen any more.''
