Swansea Target St Johnstone Striker

Swansea Target St Johnstone Striker

Swansea City have joined Birmingham City and Dundee United in a race to sign St Johnstone striker Jason Scotland.

He joined the Scottish First Division side in August 2005 and made an instant impact at McDiarmid Park. He was the club's top scorer in his first season there, scoring 16 goals.

Scotland was also part of the Trinidad & Tobago squad that played in the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany, which also included Swansea defender Dennis Lawrence.

He was on the substitutes bench for all three games in the tournament, but he returned to score 18 goals for St Johnstone this season.

After failing to reach the Scottish Premier League this season, Jason may well be tempted to move if a better offer comes his way.

However, the player will require a new work permit if he does move on in the summer.

He's out of contract in August, but Johnstone's manager Owen Coyle is keen to keep him at the club and said: 'Jason's a great player and I'd love to keep him here,'

'We'll just have to wait and see what happens.'

'We have put an offer to Jason to remain and there is no doubt in my mind that we have improved him,'

'However, we are conscious of the level of finance at which we are operating.'

'I'm not daft, I know how good a player he is and I'm sure there will be a lot of interest, but there's nothing I can do to stop that,'
