'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Carlisle vs Swansea Match Reactions

On-loan striker Darryl Duffy scored a controversial injury time winner for the Swans at Carlisle yesterday and insists there was no handball before the goal.

Carlisle players held the game up as they protested to the ref while some home fans invaded the pitch after the full time whistle.

Duffy said: 'I like to think I'm an honest type of player, and it was definitely not handball. The ball hit my side, not my arm.

'It was a fantastic time to score. Both teams went all-out to win the game, and it must have been great to watch because it was certainly good to play in.'

'I'm quite sure we would have been just as frustrated if it had been us losing a goal in the last minute. It was a real killer blow. Their keeper made a great save from the first shot, and it was a great feeling to score in the last minute.'

Martinez added: 'Both teams wanted to win, and it was exciting box-to-box football with some fantastic moves. Carlisle threw everything at us in the second half.'

Carlisle boss Neil McDonald claimed Duffy handled before his goal and said: 'It's not sour grapes. The lad touched the ball from his chest onto his hand.

'We were fantastic in the second half, and Johann Smith took his goal really well.

'We have performed above expectations this season, and have laid a foundation for next year when we will be looking for promotion.'

So much as they disagreed with the goal it was compleatly unprofessional of the Carlisle to hound the ref in that manner and might have stirred tensions that led to the ugly scenes after the match.
