Johnson: 'Referee Was A Joke'

Johnson: 'Referee Was A Joke'

After their 2-1 loss on Saturday, Northampton goalscorer Brad Johnson labelled the referee has a 'joke'.

'The timing of their goals didn't help and we could have done better in taking our chances,'

'But the player (Dennis Lawrence) definitely handballed it for their first goal.

'The referee was a joke and he didn't give us anything all day.

'We were going into tackles strongly and they were going down quite easily, so he'd just give it on their shout.

'When we go to big grounds like this the refs gets pressured by their fans and their players and I do think they cave in a bit.

'We didn't really get any of the decisions and I think the ref definitely crumbled a little.'

In my opinion, I don't think the fans created too much atmosphere - not enough to intimidate the referee.

I also thought the referee was poor on the day and failed to give us some decisions (including a definite pen) so it sounds like sour grapes to me.

The Referee was quick to give O'Leary a yellow card. Yet some of their tackles after that went without even a caution. So I think they got off quite lightly.
