'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Swansea vs Tranmere Match Reaction

Despite a huge 2-0 away win against play-off contenders Tranmere Rovers, there was some dissapointment for Martinez as he'll be without top scorer Lee Trundle for the next 2 games.

He was shown 2 yellow cards, one for kicking the ball away after being caught offside and another for over celebrating his goal.

Martinez said: 'Both yellow cards against Lee Trundle were harsh. When you send someone off it's a huge decision so sometimes a bit of common sense is needed. He should have understood Lee was in a ground which is special for him and his reaction was normal.

'But there is no taking away from the fact that it was a massive performance. When you come to Prenton Park and go down to 10 men, you know you have to deal with a lot of pressure. We did really, really well and I think it's down to the personal performances.

'I'm really proud of the attitude, concentration and communication they showed. They played like a team and it was a complete professional performance.'

I honestly believe in the circumstances that we wouldn't have got that result under Jackett. The Swansea consistently threw points away on the road when they were to be won. We continually showed difficulty this season in killing games off when going a goal ahead and I think it's fair to say we wouldn't have got anything better than a draw if Jackett was still here.

Yesterday's win was huge as any other result could well have ended any hope of another play-off place this season.

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore couldn't pick out any positives after his side's poor performance and he said: 'I can't think of any positives. It's so disappointing when you see how important the game was. How do you explain that? We had the chance of going seven points clear and I don't think there's one player with any credit.

'We can't do things the easy way. Why, I don't know. They're professional footballers and if you don't enjoy going out with a decent crowd then they shouldn't be here. I'd be ashamed to go and get a bottle of champagne for Man of the Match.

'We've lost the battle but we haven't lost the war. We've got to pick ourselves up. We've got to roll our sleeves up and we're still in with a shout.'

A couple of wins and the Swans could be in with a shout of a play off place, just needs the players to maintain a run of three or four game undefeated toacheive this, not asking too much is it.

A Great win, but if we fail to beat Chesterfield on Friday then i'm afraid it will mean nothing. i really feel we need to win all of our remaining games.
