Martinez: 'I'll Try To Keep Nugent'
Roberto Martinez today named Graeme Jones as his new assistant but insists he will try to keep Kevin Nugent at the club.
After the news of Jones' arrival to the copaching staff last week, Nugent's future at the club was in doubt.
The former player was Kenny Jackett's assistant before his departure and he took temporary charge of the squad until a new manager was appointed.
Martinez seems happy with his coaching staff and said: 'We have great experience in Kevin Reeves, who has seen it all and as chief scout will be well involved in first-team affairs,' the Spaniard added.
'We have Richie Evans and Ailsa Jones in the physio department, Colin Pascoe as first-team coach and I'll try to keep Kevin Nugent on board.'
He also commented on Graeme Jones, saying he's not a man you'd want to cross with: 'He is very disciplined,'
'I wouldn't call him bad cop to his face, but I think he can be something like that in a good way. I know I would not like to cross him.'
'He was a typical hard targetman, is the top goalscorer in Wigan history and will be good for our strike force,'
'He is well educated and is a qualified teacher who worked for four years with Middlesbrough and also worked with the FA developing young players.
'He is a mature man for his age who has worked really hard and has fantastic knowledge.'
