Martinez Is New Manager

Former player Roberto Martinez will today leave his current club Chester to become the new Swansea manager, providing that personal terms can be agreed.

Swansea have agreed a compensation package with the League 2 club and he leaves with immediate effect.

In a club statement, Swansea revealed that Martinez was the preferred candidate ever since Jackett's departure.

It said: "Provided that personal terms can be agreed in time, Roberto will be in attendance at Saturday's game at Yeovil Town,"

"The club has received interest from over 50 parties for the post, and after carefully considering those applications, interviews took place this week with a number of candidates,"

"Ever since Kenny Jackett's surprise departure last week, Roberto has been the Board's preferred candidate.

"After the interviews it was clear that Roberto was the best man for the job and the decision was made to offer him the position.

"Roberto comes highly recommended from many people in the game of football, none more so than Welsh boss John Toshack, who has offered Roberto any assistance that is required.

"Final details of the backroom coaching set-up will be announced next week."

PATHETIC, no manegerial or coaching experience, the only way is down now

Thats it, get on his case less than an hour after his appointment. He already knows most of the lads here who respect him and will hopefully put us in a position to maybe save something of this season. He always had a great tactical football brain as a footballer which should help in his managerial role and also has good links in the footballing world. Experience isnt everything.

If he was the best candidate out of 50 applicants for the job, then it doesn't say much about the pulling power of this club, and don't get me wrong i love the man, but i just feel Swansea are not going forward with this appiontment, i hope i'm proved wrong
cyjax
good player and will be a good manager good luck roberto

Very good tactically...and has the respect of EVERYONE in the team...i recently criticised the boo boys for their behaviour towards Jackett...and I have already heard several people slagging off Martinez...talk about CRITICAL...that kinda attitude didn't help us recently on maybe know ones learnt a lesson...give this guy a chance! A proper chance!

He's probably friends with most of the players, I can't see him being strick enough with any of them and dropping the favourites like tate and trundle when they are playing crap.at least he'll get us playing football on the floor.

Exactly, i made the step up from being a member of a team (not footy) and became supervisor, and it's not easy being strict and running the rule over your mates, will his influence be big enough to bring top players in the transfer window ? i doubt it
cyjax
i think he will hes got links at liverpool, man-u, zaragzza, real madrid. and a lot of lower league clubs aswell. so i think he will have a lot of pull in being able to bring good quality players in.

cyjax why the pessimism so quickly? did you quickly write off Toshack when he arrived as manager? I'm not entirely happy with his appointment but I'll be supporting him. I think he's capable of doing well but a lot of that is down to the fans, without their support he doesn't have much hope here.

I see aspaulhill has made no comment on the new manager.... He wanted Iain Dowie...
col8
he was a good player, but i don't think he will do well as a manager because he has no coaching experience.. i can't see the bright light at the end of the season... forget the promotion guys..... anyway, good luck roberto martinez...
