Britton Doesn't Hold Back After 5-0 Defeat at Liverpool

Leon Britton didn't hold back in his criticism of his Swansea City players after an embarrassing and inept performance at Liverpool.

It looked like Klopp's side were going to hand the Swans their heaviest ever Premier League defeat, but they settled for five in the end as Britton's side produced an embarrassing performance that lacked any real desire or effort.

Britton was confident that he could get a reaction out of the players following the sacking of Paul Clement, but it was clear how frustrated he was at the complete and utter lack of commitment shown this evening on Boxing Day.

It was a performance that full of errors, as most of the goals came from an individual error, as Jordan Ayew kicked things off in the first half when he tried running out of trouble in his own half, but the ball was taken off him before being fed to Coutinho who curled in a superb strike past Fabianski.

Leon Britton said:

'If we perform like we did in the second half, it will be a long second half of the season. We need a new manager and some new faces to lift the place. It worked last year. But we need to make sure we don't get cut adrift.'

'After we conceded the second goal we made so many mistakes, it's unacceptable. It's difficult when the game is going like that but you have to face up to it and take responsibility. I'm part of it, of course it's the players out on the pitch.

'The second-half hurts a lot more, when I see that second-half performance it hurts an awful lot. It's difficult seeing it after being at the club for so long. After the second goal the heads went down but you are still professional. You have to keep going. You have to give everything you've got.'

When you think that performances couldn't get any worse, the team produced that display tonight. It was a complete and utter shambles and it just reflects what's happening off the pitch as well as on it. We sacked Paul Clement, something that was always likely to happen, yet 2 games after that we're still searching for his replacement, with nobody lined up. Leon Britton is likely to be in charge for a third game, and it's a disgrace that he's been put in such a position, though it's not the first, as it's usually been Alan Curtis in previous years.

There's such a lacking of planning and care at the club now that we desperately need a change and quick.
