Clement Plays Down Reports That Sanches Loan Will End Early

Clement Plays Down Reports That Sanches Loan Will End Early

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has played down recent reports suggesting that Renato Sanches' loan from Bayern Munich will end early in January.

Reports emerged this week that both clubs have agreed to end the season-long loan early following the youngster's poor performances in the Premier League, but Clement insisted that he's unaware of such reports, he told BBC Sport:

'There is no news,'

'He's been out of the last two squads, he's not very happy.'

'I haven't had any specific communication with Bayern regarding Renato's current situation, it's just speculation,'

'Contractually, I believe he's signed for us for the season, and there were no stipulations in there that he has to play this amount of games for him to stay for the full term.

'As far as I know he's a player here for us for the season.'

Clement also believes that the midfielder can still offer the team something this season despite his poor performances - which has seen him drop out of the squad completely in the last two games.

'Renato is a very good player and I do believe that he can make a contribution for us,'

'But for him to do that he needs to start playing up to his potential. When he does that he'll feature a lot more.

'[We've got to] show him that you have belief in him and the obvious answer would be that you have to keep him involved in the squads, but I'm more believing that behind the scenes you've got to work with him.

'Clearly his confidence is low, but it was low when he came here.

'You would have hoped that he would have gone back up to a good level, but it's taken more time than we all would have hoped.'

He's been a complete flop, looks unfit and with a poor appetite for the ugly side to the game in midfield. It seems to me that he believed all the hype he got after his performances for Portugal and failed completely to work hard and push on. No work on the training field can prepare you for the Premier League, that comes from continual involvement in the games, something that he has not done since he's been here. Send him back to Germany, so that we can stop paying the exorbitant wages he is receiving.
