Transfer Window Funds Available If Swans Aren't 'Cut Adrift'

Transfer Window Funds Available If Swans Aren't 'Cut Adrift'

Wales Online are reporting that Paul Clement will be given 'significant' transfer funds in January if they're not 'cut adrift' in the relegation zone.

The club's American owners wants to ensure that there's still a realistic chance of survival following the busy festive period, before releasing funds for Paul Clement to make some much needed signings in the New Year.

Swansea City were four points adrift of safety following West Ham's 1-0 home win against Chelsea in the earlier kick off on Saturday, but Wilfried Bony's late winner against West Brom was vital as it means we're now only a point from 17th place, and 6 points from midtable.

No other club made more transfer profit in the Summer than the Swans, -£19.5million. Only four other top flight clubs made a transfer profit in the Summer window - Tottenham -£2.65m, Stoke -£9m, Burnley -£15.2m and Arsenal -£18m.

So you would expect there to be serious money available. Where do we need to focus on strengthening? The obvious first answer is an attacking midfielder to replace Gylfi Sigurdsson. Bringing one in of real quality is surely going to use up the vast majority of the net profit, and for that reason I doubt we'll sign more than two players in January. We're also lacking quality at right back and we need some pace further up the pitch.

The Swans are up against West Brom, West Ham and Crystal Palace at the bottom, and you'd also expect (and hope!) that Huddersfield and Brighton get dragged into it. Newcastle have also been tipped to struggle if they don't make some signings too, and Stoke are also feeling the pressure.

Our remaining fixtures of 2017:

Manchester City (h)

Everton (a)

Crystal Palace (h)

Liverpool (a)

Watford (a)

Some tricky games in there, 3 of the five away and 1 of our two at home is against Manchester City who've won all but 1 of their 16 League games. We simply have to at the very least avoid losing against Crystal Palace at home and also get something at Watford.

How many points do you think we'll pick up in the remaining games of 2017? Will we still be in contention of staying up in early January? Are you confident that the Americans will provide the much needed transfer funds in 2018? Let us know what you think in the comments below...

Funds only available if the Swans are not adrift?? Does this mean the American owners are going to take the money and run? Seems to me that's what they are going to do. We as supporters are being sold down the river. What do others think?
