Clement To Get Backing In January Transfer Window

Clement To Get Backing In January Transfer Window

Wales Online are reporting that Swansea City head coach Paul Clement will be backed by the club in the January transfer window.

Despite his side now sitting rock bottom of the Premier League table with just 9 points after 15 games and ten defeats, the Swansea City owners seemingly have no plans whatsoever to get rid of Paul Clement.

It looks like he will still be in charge going into 2018 when we have the opportunity to strengthen a squad desperately lacking in attacking creativity in midfield.

Questions marks will be raised as to whether the club can do the business in the transfer window, having failed to replace two key players in the Summer.

After throwing away a 1-0 lead at Stoke City on Saturday, losing the game in a four-minute spell before half time, more and more fans are calling for Clement to be given his marching orders, but it looks like we'll all have to accept the fact that he's here for a while yet.

If the club did sack Clement, it would be five managerial sackings in a row, and you can't help but feel that the real reason that Clement is still in the job is their reluctance to pay out more millions for a sacked manager and staff. But not only that, they must want to focus primarily on the transfer window with the managerial team they currently have.

Clement can count himself very lucky though, if you consider the positions and the form we were in before the last four managers were sacked. With Bob Bradley as the exception, none of the other three had experienced anything like the awful results and performances that Clement is currently delivering. Yet this is the one sacking that surely nobody - media, pundits etc could accuse us of being premature about.

One other concern was Clement's comments this week about how he wants more attacking quality in January. Hopefully he's not talking about strikers, because I believe we have good enough strikers in Abraham and Bony. While one other would be beneficial with McBurnie getting his much needed and delayed loan move, a number 10 has to be at the very top of our priorities. Replacing Sigurdsson was something we had to do in the Summer, but we didn't and are paying the price.
