Far Too Early For Relegation Talk Says Clement

Far Too Early For Relegation Talk Says Clement

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement says that it is far too early to be talking about being in a relegation battle, despite being in the bottom three after seven games.

Clement is under a bit of pressure now after 4 defeats in 7, including losing all 3 home games - two of which against opposition that we expect to beat.

'It is much too early to say we are in a relegation battle,'

'We are used to being written off. We were written off when I arrived and then when there were five games to go and we were battling with Hull to stay up.

'People said we were down, but it made no difference, we knew what we had to do then and we know what we have to do now.

'Some good results and things will look a lot better and a lot healthier.

'I don`t take much notice of what others say, I focus on getting the best out of the players and focusing on the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

'We speak honestly about where we are at, and how we are playing.

Paul Clement's side simply have to deliver the first home win of the season to silence any talk of yet another relegation battle, because at the moment -judging from what we've seen so far, you can't blame us fans for expecting another battle near the bottom of the Premier League table.

Huddersfield are another newly-promoted side that we face at home this season, and with Manchester United as the only exception, all of the opposition we've faced at home have been beatable. What's been frustrating is losing games at home to sides that haven't performed that well themselves.

We haven't been in the relegation places after 7 games for more 20 years. A far better manager than Clement was sacked last season.

Are you talking about Guidolin? Under him we were clearly unfit and would definitely have been relegated. So a better manager? I don't think so. BUT Clement has to accept that the squad of players he has now are not as good as the squad we had at the end of last season. Clucas is not as good as Cork, Bony is no Llorente and we have no-one to play the number 10 role that Sigurdsson filled so well. He has to find a midfield that can compete in the League and are able to press higher up the pitch. This is Clement's challenge, to get the best out of this group of players, and to find an attacking formula because we have slumped into a team that sits back and waits for the opposition to attack us, rather than pushing higher up the pitch and attacking, using the full width of the pitch. Clement talks a good game, let's see if he can put that talk into winning performances.
