Clement: Bony Ready For Premier League Start
After watching his side win 2-0 at Reading on Tuesday to progress through to the last 16 of the EFL Cup, Swansea City boss Paul Clement believes that striker Wilfried Bony is now ready for his first Premier League start since his return.
Bony has made substitute appearances in the two League games so far, but after playing for the under-23s last week and 81 minutes at Reading, he's now building up match fitness ahead of Saturday's home game against Watford.
Clement told the official site:
'I think he is close, he lasted over 80 minutes in this game,'
'He had a really good chance in that second half when the ball came across the box and he couldn't direct it into the net.
'He is in good shape, he played 60 minutes for the under-23 team last week and now he has played 80 minutes in this game, so I think he is ready to start now in the Premier League.'
"He did well to last as long as he did. I was surprised. His fitness is good and he will be in contention for this weekend."
Wilfried Bony had a solid game at Reading on Tuesday night. It was difficult for him in the first half when Reading dominated spells of possession, but he almost scored in the second half but a defender did well to block his shot from close range following Ayew's cross from the right.
Paul Clement also adopted a 4-3-3 formation which included Luciano Narsingh playing a more central role, and he used his pace well to try and get on to balls over the top and in behind the defence. With Roque Mesa also impressing and showing his mixed-range passing ability, it's given Clement some food for thought ahead of Saturday's return to League action.
