Clement Looking To Bring Back An 'Identity' at Swansea City

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has set out his clear objectives for his players this season - as he aims to improve 'all areas' of the squad and to bring back an 'identity'.

The Swans have lost that clear identity that they had a few seasons ago - back when the likes of Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup were in charge. They were well established and had a reputation well known for playing an attractive, passing style of football.

But we've lost our way in recent years. It began when Garry Monk replaced Laudrup, who looked for an alternative way of playing. Until Clement arrived in January, we didn't have a consistent manager in charge - but hopefully we can get back some consistency in that regard.

Not only does Clement want to win games and go up the league table, but he wants to do it in style, he told the Official site:

"I have just met with the players to talk about or objectives for the season and those objectives are very clear," said the Swans manager.

"We want to win games, we want to develop our playing style and our identity and we want to start the season well.

"We want to do better than we did last season. I want to win more games over the course of season. We won at Anfield last season, we were very close to winning at Old Trafford and we nearly got a point at Manchester City.

'Stronger squad this season'

Clement also believes he has a stronger squad this season, but some fans on social media disagree, believing we're actually weaker with a lack of strength in depth.

Looking at Saturday's trip to Saturday, you're struggling to see who we could bring on from the subs bench if things aren't going our way during the second half.

"That makes us feel that if we play well and the team we are playing don`t play so well, we can get a result anywhere.

"We also want to play with more identity, we want to score more goals and concede fewer goals. We want to be better in all areas."

"I think we are stronger as a squad than we were last season," he said.

"We haven`t had many players going out and we have integrated three new signings.

Later next month, we will look to analysis the stats that demonstrate how Swansea's style and possession and passing has dropped in the last few years, and looking in particular as to when we saw a drop in these numbers.
