Man of the Match Winners - Last 4 Games

Man of the Match Winners - Last 4 Games

The last four league games has been crucial to our Premier League survival this season, four games that saw us go undefeated, winning 3 and drawing just 1.

And in those four games, we conceded just 1 goal, keeping clean sheets in the other three games.

It says it all that the man of the match winners for those four games have been Leon Britton (2), and the two centre backs - Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez.

Starting off with the 2-0 home win at Stoke City - the start of our revival with a new 4-4-2 diamond system and Britton's return. Leon puts in a trademark performance at the base of the diamond, to win the poll with 58% of the votes.

That was followed by a well-earned 1-1 draw at Manchester United, a game we would have won had Rashford not cheated to win a penalty. Federico Fernandez put in his best performance for a long while, winning the Man of the Match poll with 51%. Sigurdsson was second place with 29% - scoring a superb equalising goal from a free-kick.

We were back to winning ways at home the following week, as Fernando Llorente's early headed goal was enough to see pick up a crucial three points. Alfie Mawson received wide praise with the game televised on BT Sport. The young defender also won the Young Player of the Year Award at the club's awards dinner this week. No sprurise then that he won the man of the match poll vs Everton (W1-0), with 60% of the votes. Britton followed in second place (15%).

Leon Britton (58%) then won his second man of the match poll in 4 games, as the Swans moved a huge step closer to confirming their Premier League status with a win at Sunderland. Like he did against Everton, Llorente (second in the MOTM poll with 19%) scored another early goal, heading home Sigurdsson's free kick before Naughton fired in his first ever goal for the Swans.

It's no coincidence at all that Leon Britton, and defenders Mawson and Fernandez were the players to clearly win the man of the match polls over an almost perfect 4-game run. Together with the system switch to a diamond, the trio have helped to keep clean sheets, while the likes of Sigurdsson, Llorente and Ayew too have done the business at the other end.

Leon Britton's control, awareness, vision, passing ability (I could go on) has been key to keeping better possession of the ball, as well as improving us defensively as a team. That has helped the defence look a stronger unit too. Fernandez has been one of our most improved players of late, and young Mawson alongside is improving week in week out.
