Clement Wins January Manager of the Month Award

Clement Wins January Manager of the Month Award

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement won the Premier League Player of the Month award for January after guiding the Swans out of the bottom three.

The former Derby boss signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Swans in London when Alan Curtis and Paul Williams - no longer working with the first team - prepared the squad for their crucial win away at Crystal Palace. That day, the Swans were rock bottom of the table with just 12 points, but now we're 17th position with 21 points.

Clement`s first full match in charge - at home against Arsenal ended in a disappointing 4-0 defeat, but despite the rather flattering scoreline, you could already see signs that the Swans were moving in the right direction - particularly their better organisation and increased confidence.

That improved significantly in the games that followed, a 3-2 away win at Liverpool before a vital 2-1 home victory against Southampton - who incidentally went to Sunderland today and won 4-0.

Clement completely deserved the award, he`s literally transformed the team into what looked like certs for relegation to now having a serious chance of avoiding the drop. They can move four points clear of the bottom three on Sunday when they host the title holders Leicester City.

Commenting on winning the award, Clement said:

It was a nice surprise,'

'Also because of the other managers who had very good results and teams this month.

'I was absolutely confident in my ability to do this job, and I haven`t done the job. There`s a long way to go.'

Paul Clement has also received praise from new signing Tom Carroll, who told the Official Site that he has been "really impressed" with the former Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea assistant:

"Mauricio Pochettino is a good guy and a top manager,"

"I think he has helped me improve as a player. The work they do both in the gym and on the training field at Tottenham has made me a better player.

"I can only thank him for that, but the head coach here at Swansea has been great, too. I have really enjoyed his sessions.

"I have been really impressed by him. He has a great reputation having worked at some top clubs around Europe and what he has done on the training pitch with the lads has been really good.

"I think all the players are enjoying playing for him."
